Combat Paper
- February 20 – April 11, 2009
- Combat Paper; featuring Vermont artists and Iraq war veterans Jon Turner, Drew Cameron, Eli Wright and members of the Combat Paper Project; transforms the gallery into a functioning paper making studio. These artists recruit veterans who cut, grind and cook their military uniforms into pulp, and then form them into sheets of paper. Using the transformation processes of papermaking the veterans reclaim their uniforms as art and begin to reconcile their experiences as soldiers in Iraq. Representing a new generation of interventionist artists members of the Combat Paper Project seek to actively discourage enlistment by engaging enlistment-age high school students and community members in weekly papermaking workshops. These workshops serve as a catalyst for insight, discussion, as well as psychological release.
