Carol MacDonald: Cast On, Bind Off

Carol MacDonald: Cast On, Bind Off

September 26–November 1, 2008
Vermont print-artist Carol MacDonald examines the tradition of knitting through a variety of print-making techniques. In this new series of work, she reflects on the repetitive and therapeutic nature of this traditional handicraft, detailing the intricate techniques of knitting, as well as creating monoprints directly from garments she has knit herself. An activity based upon processes and patience, MacDonald sees the act of knitting as respectful of both space and time—rare commodities in today’s world of instant gratification. Through the examination of this labor-intensive, defiantly manual practice she seeks to remind us that slowing down is a necessity in order to hear our own voice in a hectic and chaotic world. Carol MacDonald is the 2008 recipient of BCA’s annual Barbara Smail Award.

This exhibition is sponsored by Allen and Bonnie Reid Martin & the Vermont Arts Endowment Fund with the The Vermont Community Foundation.
