Punk House

Punk House

August 1–September 19
Punk houses interiors are chaotic and colorful, filled with graffiti, posters, original art, salvaged furniture, and music equipment. From feminist communes, to bike co-ops, tree houses and converted buses, featuring names like, Collective A Go-Go, Firebreathing Kangaroo and International House of Mancakes they express an underground culture largely unknown to mainstream society. Over three and a half months Vermont artist Abby Banks traveled cross-country photographing sixty-five punk houses, compiled in her 2007 book “Punk House: Interiors in Anarchy”.

In this exhibition viewers will experience Abby Bank’s trip through her “eye”. First through her photography, then along with five other artists from her Brattleboro based art-collective Tinderbox, the back gallery will be transformed into a “punkhouse neighborhood” featuring miniature structures each an impression of their favorite punk houses.

Abby Banks will be signing copies of her book at the gallery, Saturday, August 9, from 12-3pm

Punk House is sponsored in part by Blue Buddha Tattoo, ReCycle North, and a grant from the Vermont Arts Endowment Fund with The Vermont Community Foundation.
