Metropolitan Gallery
Metropolitan Gallery is the art space situated within the foyer of Burlington's City Hall, located directly next to the Firehouse Center for the Visual Arts on Church Street. This accessible exhibition space gives an opportunity to community organizations to share their mission through artwork. Work displayed in the Metropolitan Gallery receives considerable exposure as it is open to the public, a regular stop on First Friday Art Walk, and a point of entry for City Hall.
Exhibitions revolve monthly. If your organization is interested in exhibiting in this space please contact Amanda Sanfilippo, the Exhibitions Coordinator and Curator of Metropolitan Gallery.
Hiroshima-Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Exhibition
- June 27 – July 29, 2008
- Presented by Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the first cities to experience the horror of nuclear weapons. Both were devastated in an instant, and tens of thousands of precious lives were lost. Many of those who managed to survive still suffer today from disorders attributable to A-bomb radiation. The survivors’ long-held wish is to let no one else ever suffer as they did, and the two cities have for decades appealed for a world of genuine peace free from nuclear weapons.
One form this appeal has taken is the Hiroshima-Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Exhibition, which presents the facts of the atomic bombings and calls for peace. In the United States, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum hopes to hold two exhibitions in every state plus one in Washington, DC, totaling 101 exhibitions between August 6, 2007 and November 2008. This project is made possible by the following donors: JAM Hiroshima, Hiroshima lodge of The Japanese Federation of Textile, Chemical, Food, Commercial, Service and General Workers’ Unions, Hiroshima District Council of Confederation of Japan Automobile Workers’ Unions, Hiroshima Gas Workers’ Union, Fujimoto seminar Nanzan University, CCU of Hyogo Prefecture Peace Action, Yoshiaki Tsuboi, Mitsuko Amano, Tsuyoshi Amamiya, Mika Yoshida, Takehiro Asano.
Reception: Friday, June 27, 10am-2pm, Contois Auditorium, featuring Delegation visitors & survivor talk.
