Metropolitan Gallery
Metropolitan Gallery is the art space situated within the foyer of Burlington's City Hall, located directly next to the Firehouse Center for the Visual Arts on Church Street. This accessible exhibition space gives an opportunity to community organizations to share their mission through artwork. Work displayed in the Metropolitan Gallery receives considerable exposure as it is open to the public, a regular stop on First Friday Art Walk, and a point of entry for City Hall.
Exhibitions revolve monthly. If your organization is interested in exhibiting in this space please contact Amanda Sanfilippo, the Exhibitions Coordinator and Curator of Metropolitan Gallery.
Postcards From Cuba
- August 6th – September 2nd, 2010
- Reception: Friday, August 6th, 5-8pm
Photography by Elizabeth Humstone
These images are from a study tour on historic preservation and urban planning in Cuba in February 2010. The focus of the tour was Old Havana - a World Heritage Site. We met with Cuban planners and preservationists who are passionate about their work. Each image is paired with a brief explanation of the program or project. The explanations are placed on a scan of a postcard that was found among my grandmother’s possessions. She traveled to Havana many times. The postcard was written in 1911 and sent from a member of a regiment that was involved in the “cruel” Mexican War.
