Intro to Oil Painting II

Tuesdays, April 3–May 29 6:30–9pm
In this eight-week class, students will work with water-soluble oils and learn the basics of color theory and composition. Students will paint from still life and will learn the many techniques that exist in this wonderful medium by looking at the work of many master painters. A balance of studio time and group discussion will be encouraged. Students will learn from each other and enhance their painting experience. This class is for the advanced beginner or intermediate student. Some drawing experience is helpful, but not necessary. (CLASS CODE: 811141–1)

Fresh Flower Design

Wednesdays, April 4–25, 6:30–8:30pm
In this four-week class, students will be introduced to the basic principles and concepts of floral design. Through in-class demonstrations and hands-on practice, students will learn how to prepare and arrange a variety of fresh flowers in a variety of vases and containers. At the end of each class, students will bring home their own fresh arrangement! Students will leave this course with an understanding of the elements involved in designing a flower arrangement as well as the basic design skills to continue arranging on their own. Portrait Painting in Oil

Wednesdays, April 4–May 30 1:30–4:30pm
This eight-week class is for intermediate and advanced painters to have the opportunity to vitalize expression of human form through a focus on portraits. A non-traditional approach will be used, with emphasis on fresh color, dynamic composition, and personal expression. Using water-soluble oils, students will paint from a model each week. Small class size will allow plenty of individual feedback, demonstrations and informal critiques in a supportive environment. Some portrait drawing experience needed. (CLASS CODE: 811140–1)

Drawing Portraits

Thursdays, April 5–26, 6–8:30pm
This four-week class will provide students with a hands-on introduction to the techniques and concepts of portrait drawing. Students will work directly from live models and learn how to incorporate their own intuitive and unique style to treat the portrait as something more than just facial features. Students will be encouraged to experiment expressively with a variety of drawing media including charcoal, pencil, chalk, ink/brush/crow quill and graphite. Intro to Watercolor Painting

Mondays, April 9–May 14, 6–8:30pm
In this six-week class, students will learn the basics of watercolor painting. Students will be introduced to watercolor brushes and paper and will learn how to add layers, loose washes, shadows and highlights in their work. Composition, some drawing tips and color theory will also be introduced. Subject matter may include florals, landscapes, and the translation of an oil painting into a watercolor.
