Beginning Wheel I

The winter session of this class is currently full, but it is being offered again in the spring – see dates and description below. You may contact us to be put on the waiting list for the winter session.
This seven-week class is an introduction to clay, pottery and the ceramics studio. Students will be working primarily on the potter’s wheel learning basic throwing and forming techniques. Projects may include vases, mugs, and bowls. Students will also be guided through various finishing techniques using the studio’s house slips and glazes. (CLASS CODE: 811510–1)

Wednesday Morning Clay

Wednesdays, February 7–March 21, 9:30am–12pm
In this seven-week class, students will learn how to use the wheel as a basis for developing more complex forms. This class will aid beginner to advanced potters in further development of technique and wheel throwing skills as well as learning to contemplate their work aesthetically. Hand Building Ceramics

Wednesdays, February 14–March 14, 6–8:30pm
Slab, coil, and pinch are just some of the hand building skills this class will cover. Students will investigate form and texture while constructing both functional and decorative pieces. Students may choose to focus on garden sculptures, dinnerware, tiles and more. The possibilities are endless! (CLASS CODE: 811531–1)

Parent & Child Wheel

Fridays, February 16–March 16, 3:30–5pm
Create a memorable experience with your child! This five-week class will introduce young and younger alike to work with clay using the potter’s wheel. Students will practice basic wheel working techniques and will also be introduced to handle making, trimming and glazing. Parents and children will each use their own wheel and parents are expected to help monitor their child. All clay, tools, glazes and firings are included. (CLASS CODE: 812513–1)

Printmaking on Clay

Wednesdays, March 28–April 25, 6:30–9pm
This mixed level class will combine basic printmaking techniques with basic ceramic pottery skills. Students will create hand built or wheel thrown pieces that will be used as the base for unique printed designs. Silkscreen printing with slips and glazes will be introduced. (CLASS CODE: 811532–1)

Special Glaze Techniques

Wednesdays, April 4–May 16, 9:30am–12pm
Students will explore majolica, a glaze technique extensively used in Italian ceramics. In this seven-week class, students will throw with low fire clay and use glaze and stain colors that will add a flare of timeless beauty and lively colors to their work. (CLASS CODE: 811533–1)

Figurative Sculpture

Monday, April 16–May 21, 6–8:30pm
In this six-week class, students will create interesting three-dimensional forms, learn hand-building techniques, and learn how to express the human figure in clay. Four of the classes will involve working from a model. Previous experience in clay is not required. Sculptures will be approximately 6-9 inches. (CLASS CODE: 811535–1)

Surface Design

Wednesdays, May 2–30, 6–8:30pm
Have you ever felt stuck when it comes time to glaze your pots? Need ideas how to decorate your favorite pieces? This five–week class will focus on exciting surfaces for pottery or hand built ceramics. Students will learn how to use stains, texture glazes, stamps, and stencils to enhance the look of their ceramic work. (CLASS CODE: 811534–1)

Friday Night Teen Drop-In

Fridays, January 12–May 11, 5:30–7:30pm
Bring your old clothes and some tunes and create with clay. The instructors will show you how to hand build or use the wheel. Clay for practice and fun is free. If you want to keep something, you can bisque and glaze it for $1.50 per 6”x6”x6” item. Scholarships are available!
