In this drawing based camp, campers will become illustrators and will be inspired by a variety of colorful, illustrated books including Owl Moon, Leonardo The Terrible Monster, Rainbow Fish and more. Using pencil, oil pastels, markers and more, campers will explore the ins and outs of illustration and will be encouraged to draw what they observe as well as what they imagine. NEW! Itsy Bitsy Sculpture

Using a variety of materials such as recycled objects, fibers, foil, air-dry clay, and paint, campers will become mini sculptors and use their wildest imaginations to create a variety of dynamic 3-D sculptures. Campers will be exposed to a variety of famous sculptors and be encouraged to incorporate their favorite subject matter whether it be monsters, itsy bitsy creepy crawly things, creatures, and more. Campers are encouraged to bring in their own fabric or chose from the bountiful camp piles. This camp is for both boys and girls. In addition to film and printing space, we also have a new Logan Mat Cutter available for use for a small fee by members of any Burlington City Arts studio. The Community Darkroom is open to individuals and groups for rental time. We also offer a range of classes ranging from beginner level to more advanced. Please contact the Photography Program Director to sign up for membership, arrange rental time, or to inquire about group use. The darkroom is handicapped accessible.
DARKROOM RATES
There are two levels of darkroom membership available:
- Hourly Rates $10/month membership fee + $8/hour rental fee
- Monthly Rates $90/month membership Includes unlimited access on a space-available basis to the posted darkroom hours.

Drawing from Life

Try your hand at drawing from life! Campers will use a variety of drawing materials including vine charcoal, conte crayons, colored pencils and pastels to observe and draw directly from still-lifes and models. Using drawing boards and professional easels, campers will develop their drawing skills by working large on newsprint and various colored papers. Itsy Bitsy Fashion Design

Come be a miniature fashion designer! Campers will learn basic sewing techniques and will use simple patterns to cut and create their own dolls out of various sewing materials, including cottons, rickrack, yarns, ribbons, buttons, puffy fabric paints and more. Fill up your passport as you travel the globe exploring cultural traditions from exotic and distant lands! Mornings are spent at the Firehouse Center where our world travelers will create African batiks, Japanese Kabuki masks, Indian ankle bells and more. Afternoons are spent at the Flynn Center where campers will play with fun regional dances and theatrical customs from Africa, Asia, India and more. On the last day of camp, family and friends are invited to a special performance and art exhibit at the Flynn. This special partner camp is led by teaching artists from BCA and the Flynn Center.

Campers will make their own 2-D characters come alive through the art of stop-motion animation! Forming small “production companies,” teams of campers will write original stories, learn how to use drawing and photography techniques to animate their own original characters and backgrounds. By the end of the week, some aspects of post-production work, including some computer editing, may be incorporated to create individual CD’s of the campers’ work. Cartooning

In this camp, campers will learn the ins and outs of cartooning. Campers will look at a variety of cartoons and comics in various styles and will learn how to incorporate special design elements (gesture, scale, emotion, color, angles and more) in their own work. Claymation

Campers will make their own 3-D characters come alive through the art of stop-motion animation. Forming small “production companies,” teams of campers will write original stories, sculpt characters, construct sets, and then animate their creations for the camera. By the end of the week, some aspects of post-production work, including some computer editing, may be incorporated to create individual CD’s of the campers’ work. see mapDescription: The Community Darkroom was included in the Firehouse renovations plans when Burlington City Arts conducted a survey and found that darkroom space and photography classes were in demand but not readily available. In addition to film and printing space, we also have a new Logan Mat Cutter available for use for a small fee by members of any Burlington City Arts studio. The Community Darkroom is open to individuals and groups for rental time. We also offer a range of classes ranging from beginner level to more advanced. Please contact the Photography Program Director to sign up for membership, arrange rental time, or to inquire about group use. The darkroom is handicapped accessible.
DARKROOM RATES
There are two levels of darkroom membership available:
- Hourly Rates $10/month membership fee + $8/hour rental fee
- Monthly Rates $90/month membership Includes unlimited access on a space-available basis to the posted darkroom hours.
