Silkscreen Design with Graham Keegan

Learn the materials and processes of silkscreen design- a fast paced printing technique that uses screens, squeegees and inks. Work with a professional silkscreen artist and learn how to use multiple screens and colors to make multi-layered prints. Print designs on clothing, t-shirts and more! Graham Keegan is a founding member of the Burlington based screen printing company Tick Tick. He has experience in all aspects of manual screen printing, ranging from intricate, hand drawn serigraphs to high volume production work for corporate clients. He emphasises creative problem solving to devise solutions for the constant challenges of the medium, and revels in learning and sharing new procedures and processes.

see mapDescription: Located at 250 Main Street in Memorial Auditorium, the Print Studio offers seasonal classes in printmaking and book arts ranging from introductory courses to master workshops, all taught by experienced artists. The spacious studio includes a 30 x 48” Takach etching press, a Vandercook SP15 proofing press, large work tables, ample storage space, inks, solvents, and a variety of materials available on site. Studio 250 is equipped for relief and intaglio printmaking (including etching), as well as letterpress and monotype, and offers extensive open studio hours at affordable rates for seasoned printmakers as well as beginning students.

Beginning Silkscreening with Leah Cooper

Learn to design and print posters, t-shirts, fine art prints and more! Students will be exposed to a variety of techniques for transferring and printing images using hand-drawn, photographic or borrowed imagery. Learn how to apply photo emulsion, how to use a silkscreen exposure unit, and how to mix and print images with water-based inks. Material list will be provided, some materials included. Leah Cooper is a graduate of the University of Vermont with a major in Studio Art and a focus on printmaking. While at UVM, she maintained a position on the Dean’s List and was also the Teachers Assistant in the continuing education silkscreen class. Leah works for Select Design LTD and is trained in operating 6, 10, and 12 color manual and auto printing presses. She currently works in the pre-press department handling the production schedule with responsibilities including burning and reclaiming screens.
