Clay Classes for Adults
Beginning Wheel I (Section A)
- Mondays, September 13-November 8, 6-8:30pm (no class 10/11)
- Limit: 12
This eight-week class is an introduction to clay, pottery and the ceramics studio. Students will be working primarily on the potter’s wheel, learning basic throwing and forming techniques. While learning, you will create vases, mugs and bowls. Students will also be guided through the various finishing techniques using the studio’s house slips and glazes. No previous experience needed! Includes over 20 hours per week of open studio time to practice! (CLASS CODE: 841512-1)

Catherine is a working ceramic sculpture artist and studio potter. She received her BFA in graphic design from Buffalo State College and a MFA in ceramic sculpture from the University of Arizona. She is also a certified art teacher and loves to teach people of ages and levels. Catherine is the Studio Manager for BCA’s Print + Clay Studio.

Our classes and workshops offer an array of clay and craft experiences in such mediums as hand building, wheel throwing, sculpture, silversmithing, fiber arts and more. Our large, sunny studio has three classrooms, 14 pottery wheels, three kilns, a slab roller, extruder and a wide variety of hand tools to enhance your project design. There are also more than 100 glaze combinations available to complete your ceramic work. We offer extensive open studio hours for those who choose to pursue clay through our many classes. Our studio use is also available for monthly rental for those that wish to explore their art at their leisure. Children’s classes and family activities are available year round.

Monthly studio rentals offer more than 20 hours of studio use during weekdays, evenings and weekends, and includes glazes and kiln firings. Clay sold separately for $20/25lb bag.

Parent and Child Wheel
- Saturdays, November 6–December 11, 10am-11:30am (no class 11/27)
- Limit: 5 pairs (10 students)
This five-week class will introduce young and younger alike to working with clay using the potter’s wheel while having a memorable experience with your child. Students will practice basic wheel working techniques and will also be introduced to handle making, trimming and glazing while making vases, bowls and mugs. Parents and children will each use their own wheel. Parents are expected to help monitor their child. All clay, tools, glazes and firings are included. (CLASS CODE: 841420-1)

Raku Firing Workshop
- Sunday, November 14, 10am-3pm
- Limit: 10
Raku is the most exciting and fulfilling firing process, which involves removing glowing pots from a red-hot kiln. Participants will learn various raku techniques including naked raku, horsehair, crackling and bright metallic lusters. Workshop will include glazing instruction, firing as well as demos on creating great forms for raku. Bring your own bisqued ware or some will be provided. (CLASS CODE: 841534-1)

Classic Italian Tile Decoration

The traditional Italian style of tile painting, known as Majolica, has long been admired for its exquisite and unique designs. Learn how to create your own tiles with Natasha, who studied this art form at Studio Giambo in Florence, Italy. During this five-week class, you will learn about glazing techniques, mixing stains, design transfer, composition and brush handling while making your own tiles and bowls. Natasha Bogar has been teaching art for over 10 years. Her classes include silkscreening, color theory, clay, marbleizing, mosaics, painting and much more. She has her B.F.A. from the University of Maine and studied professionally at Studio Giambo in Florence, Italy and the School of Italian Plasters in Verona, Italy. Natasha also runs a fine art company with her twin sister, www.twinspirations.com.
