Clay Classes for Adults
WHEEL-THROWING I
- Mondays, July 7-August 18, 6-8:30pm
- This seven-week class is an introduction to clay, pottery and the ceramics studio. Students will be working primarily on the potter’s wheel learning basic throwing and forming techniques. Projects may include vases, mugs, and bowls. Students will also be guided in using the studio’s house slips and glazes. No experience necessary! Class includes over 20 hrs/week of open studio time to practice! (Class Code: 821510-1)

see mapDescription:Located at 250 Main Street in the Memorial Auditorium, our Clay Studio is a fully equipped ceramics studio offering classes for the novice to the expert. Our classes and workshops offer an array of clay and craft experiences in such mediums as hand building, wheel throwing, sculpture, silversmithing, fiber arts and more. Our large, sunny studio has three classrooms, 14 pottery wheels, three kilns, a slab roller, extruder and a wide variety of hand tools to enhance your project design. There are also more than 100 glaze combinations available to complete your ceramic work. We offer extensive open studio hours for those who choose to pursue clay through our many classes. Our studio use is also available for monthly rental for those that wish to explore their art at their leisure. Children’s classes and family activities are available year round.

Monthly studio rentals offer more than 20 hours of studio use during weekdays, evenings and weekends, and includes glazes and kiln firings. Clay sold separately for $15/25lb bag.

WHEEL-THROWING II
- Thursday, July 10-August 21, 6:30-9pm
- In this mixed level class for advanced beginners and intermediate potters, students will learn individualized tips and challenges for advancement on the wheel. Demonstrations and instruction will cover advanced throwing, trimming, glazing techniques and more. Individual projects will be encouraged. Class includes over 20 hrs/week of open studio time to practice! (Class Code: 821511-1)

RAKU
- Wednesday, July 16-30, 6:30-9pm
- In this three-week class, students will create decorative vessels, vases, bowls or sculpture specific to the Raku firing process. The class will focus on working with clay on and off the wheel, Raku glaze techniques and surface treatments. A historical background of the art of Raku will also be shared. (Class Code: 821505-1)

SLIP CASTING WORKSHOP
- Wednesday, August 6 and 13, 6-7:30pm
- Repetition, repetition, repetition! Making and using plaster molds gives you the ability to make many duplicate pieces. In this workshop, learn how to cast an object in plaster and use liquid clay to duplicate that object. Students will make two molds to take home that can be used over and over. (Class Code: 821531-1)
